SS Rex Ocean Liner - With ScaleDecks Wood Deck - Italian Line / Mid To Late 1930s

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

$669

Finally, the Pride of the Italian Line in 1/350 scale! The SS Rex is from the same team that brought you the 1/350 SS Normandie Ocean Liner. This four year project is a 100% new model and represents the Rex in her glory years of the mid 1930s. All design work was done in CAD by Ken Friend, a master modeler, designer and builder of experimental engines and test equipment and an engineer who specialized in CAD/CAM/CAE Systems Management and Implementation. All of the smaller parts are printed on ultra-high resolution 3D SLA resin printers. These parts meet and often exceed what is possible with injection molded plastic. Only the larger parts (hull, deck pieces and funnels)are cast resin. These are pressure-cast from de-aired molds to minimize air bubbles. The Italian Line advertised that "The Southern Route Is the Lido Deck Route." By virtue of avoiding the stormy and cold North Atlantic, travelers experienced a true outdoor lifestyle. The Rex was intentionally designed for this. For this model, extensive research and time was spent capturing the exact look of the colorful 1st and 2nd Class Aft Pool Areas- from the changing room & showers, grab rope on the pool, pool slide, stairs & diving boards, tables with umbrellas, recessed (covered) 1st Class Restaurant/Lounge and more. Because of the superior performance of 3D Printing, over 90% of the usual PE (photoetched) metal parts are now 3D printed resin. This is a vast improvement as they are no longer flat, but are true to the shape of the prototype. This also makes for a nearly complete model "out-of-the-box." Includes a real wood deck from Scaledecks. NOTE: railings are the only parts not included with the model shown. They are not required to complete the kit, however 1/350 railings are sold by a vast number of aftermarket sources. I will refer all buyers to the sources that I believe work the best with the kit.   more info >

O-Lin Republic Seabee Amphibian, 1/48, 503

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++++

$145

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. The Seabee was produced as a high performance sport amphibian. This is a very hard-to-fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Produced in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in high gloss light gray and has the correct decals and instructions. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals.

Jo-Han 1964 Chrysler 300 Hardtop Customizing Kit - Stock Custom or Rally, 1/25, C964-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$219

Very, very rare first issue. And even rarer in this condition - never built and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Features all parts for the three versions, detailed engine and compartment, opening hood, full interior, molded underside detail and more. Molded in ivory, clear, red-tinted clear, chrome plate and with rubber tires and metal axles. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: there are very small and light tire burns on the left front fender; very easy to fix since they are in a perfectly smooth area and so slight. There are also burns on the optional rally underpans, one seat (near the edges) and the edges of two ivory plastic rims (not bad, do not interfere with assembly). Instructions are 'very good.' The decals have minor bug damage restricted to the backing paper only and the actual transfers have no damage.

Includes a detailed 'battle-ground' base. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Hawk Mister Mulligan - 1935 Thompson Trophy Winner - One-Piece Box Issue, 1/48, 703

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$125

Very rare and for the advanced model collector. This is the true first issue of the Mister Mulligan. It has a fascinating history for it is among the earlist injection molded kits produced in the United States. The Hawk model company was the most innovative in America and had been making constant 1/48 scale models in wood with metal accessories since the late 1920s. During the re-run of the World's Fair in 1933, Hawk may have made the world's first injection molded airplanes models - but they were not kits. The models were completely finished and were on display for the then-large sum of $25 each. The Mates brothers, who founded and ran Hawk, were quick to incorporate this new technology by replacing the metal detail parts with injection molded details to the wooden kits in the late 1930s. During the war, Hawk put it's injection molding knowledge to work making ID models for the US Armed Forces. Originally there was a nation-wide program to have children and adults make these from wood, but consistency was an issue - injection molded solved this problem. Immediately after WWII in 1946, Hawk made the Curtiss Racer model injection molded in black tenite. The box was a simple one-color affair. This may have been the first injection molded airplane kit produced in the USA; another contender is the Varney's PT-17. Both met a very cool reception at hobby shops. Hawk quickly changed the Curtiss box to two colors and added box artwork while molding the kit is bright yellow acetate. In 1947 Hawk approached toy stores since hobby shops were giving the kit poor promotion. The toy stores did much better. Spurred on by toy store sales in '47, Hawk added four classic racers in '48, all molded in acetate - the Gee Bee, Howard Ike, Laird Solution and the Supermarine S6B. In 1949 Hawk molded them in a much more stable polystyrene and additional Thompson Trophy Races were introduced to the line; this Mister Mulligan kit is one of those. It is molded in high-gloss white plastic, clear and with a dark brown pilot figure. Inside, the kit is factory-new. The small parts are still sealed in the factory 'krinkle' clear bag. The fuselage halves and wing were never factory sealed and inventoried complete. Includes the correct instructions with the '703' part number and advises the use of "...carbon tetracholoride" as a cement because plastic model glue was still not widely available. The instructions are also a detailed painting guide because at this point Hawk did not furnish decals with their plastic kits. The box is in very good condition with great colors. The box has not been crushed, bent or flattened, which is unusual since this type of box is not very strong. The instructions are in 'excellent' condition.
